Viewing Documents, Clauses, and Defined Terms
To view the full text of a document, clause, or defined term in the result list, click its title. The corresponding text is displayed in the right frame. Your search terms are highlighted in the text.
When viewing a document, clause, or defined term, you can do the following:
- To go to the next or previous term in your result, click a Term arrow at the bottom of the page. To go to the next or previous document, clause, or defined term in your result, click a Document, Clause, or Defined Term arrow.
- To view a summary of the document, clause, or defined term that you are viewing, click the View Summary link, e.g., View Document Summary, in the left frame. For details, see Viewing Summaries below.
- To view comments that your organization's annotator has added to the document, click View File Comments in the left frame (this option is available only if comments exist).
- To open a copy of the file in its original format (e.g., Microsoft Word), click Load Copy in the left frame.
- To e-mail the file, click Email File in the left frame. An e-mail template is displayed with the file automatically attached.
- To print the text displayed in the right frame, click the Print link, e.g., Print Document, in the left frame. For details, see Printing.
Viewing Summaries
You can view the summary of a document, clause, or defined term that you have retrieved.
To access a summary, do one of the following:
- Click a Summary link in a result list. The summary is displayed in the right frame.
- Click the View Summary link, e.g., View Document Summary, in the left frame when a document, clause, or defined term is displayed in the right frame.
Document summaries may include the following sections:
- Document Profile: Displays data that was generated by West km during analysis, such as the title, party names, law firms, governing law, and execution date. Click a link in the profile to jump to the reference.
- File Profile: Displays metadata that was gathered from your organization's DMS, such as file title, author, created and modified date, and client and matter information.
- Outline: Displays an outline of the document, clause, or defined term. Click a link in the outline to jump to that section.
- Defined Terms: Click a term to jump to its definition in the text of the document or clause.
- Referenced Documents: Shows a list of all documents explicitly referenced in the document you are viewing. Click a document title to go to its reference in the document you are viewing.
Clause summaries include a clause and document profile, outline, and defined terms (if applicable). Defined term summaries include a defined term and document profile and an outline.
If multiple instances of the same metadata, defined term, or referenced document are found, the item is listed only once in the summary. The number of instances is indicated in parentheses after the item. To jump to the first instance in the text of the document or clause, click the item. Then use Term arrows to navigate to other instances.
To quickly go to a section of a summary, click a link (e.g., Profile) at the bottom of the page.
To access the text of the document, clause, or defined term associated with the summary, click the View link, e.g., View Document, in the left frame.
