Annotating a Document

If you are an annotator in West km, you can add notes to a document, mark a document exemplar, and edit all annotations in the West km interface. Other West km users can view your annotations.

Note: Notes and exemplar markings you add to a document are also viewable from all clauses and defined terms originating from that document.

To annotate a document,

  1. When you are viewing the text or summary of a document in the West km interface, click the Annotations icon at the top of the document.
  2. Do one of the following:

    • To mark the document as an exemplar document, click Mark As Exemplar Document.
    • To mark the document as an exemplar form, click Mark As Exemplar Form.
    • To add note, click Add Note, type your note in the text box, and click Save.

If a document is marked as exemplar, an exemplar icon is displayed next to the document title. If a note is added to a document, a Notes bar is displayed at the top of the document. To view the note, click the Notes bar.

To remove an exemplar marking from a document, click the Annotations icon at the top of the document and then click either Unmark As Exemplar Document or Unmark As Exemplar Form.

To edit an existing note for a document, click the Expand icon in the the Notes bar at the top of the document, click the note text, make your changes, and click Save.

To delete an existing note for a document, click the Expand icon in the the Notes bar at the top of the document, click the note text, and click the red X.

When changes are made to a document's annotations, the document is flagged for a profile metadata update at the next incremental update. In order for searches on annotations to work, indexing and full-text indexing are required.
