Limiting the List of Retrieved Documents

If a large number of your organization's documents are retrieved in a result, you can restrict the number of documents to more easily pinpoint those that are most pertinent.

Applying Restrictions

To restrict the number of documents in a result,

Do one of the following to access the West km Limits page:

In the West km interface:

Point to Limit Results at the top of the result list and then click a restriction on the menu.

In the Westlaw Classic interface:

From a KeyCite result, point to the arrow next to Limit KeyCite Dislay and click a restriction on the menu.
From a search result, point to Limit Results at the top of the page and then click a restriction on the menu.
From a result, click Locate in Result.

In the left frame, click an arrow to specify a restriction. Then in the right frame, specify the options you want to use to restrict the result. For more information, see Limit Restrictions.
If desired, click another arrow in the left frame to specify another restriction.
Click Apply. The result is displayed with the restrictions you specified.

Modifying Restrictions

To modify your restrictions,

Do one of the following:

In the West km interface, point to Edit Limits and click the first restriction from the menu that you want to modify.
In the Westlaw Classic interface, point to Edit Limits and click the first restriction from the menu that you want to modify. (If you initially clicked Locate in Result, you can click Edit Locate).

Change your specifications for this restriction and any other restrictions and click Apply.

Cancelling Restrictions

To cancel your restrictions and display the list of all documents in the original result, do one of the following:

From the West km Limits page, click Cancel.
From a result in the West km interface, point to Edit Limits and then click Cancel Limits on the menu.
From a search result in the Westlaw Classic interface, point to Edit Limits and then click Cancel Limits on the menu.
From a KeyCite result in the Westlaw Classic interface, click Cancel Limits at the bottom of the right frame.
From a result in the Westlaw Classic interface, click Cancel Locate.
