General Settings

Sync New Docs on Incremental Update

If selected, the incremental update process will also find and index any new documents in the collection that have a date and time prior to when the collection was last indexed.

You may want to select this setting if (1) you change your saved search criteria in your DMS database for a document collection after it was indexed, or (2) you add older documents to a NT file system location that is an indexed document collection.

This setting is not selected by default.

Work In Progress Time Span (days)

Prevents documents that are works in progress from being indexed during bulk indexing or incremental updates. A document is a work in progress if the difference between the last modified date and the date of indexing is less than the number of days in this setting.

Note: If an existing West km document is edited, it is not removed from West km during the work-in-progress period. The original document remains until the edited document is incorporated after the work-in-progress period.

Note: This setting does not apply to document collections in NetDocuments.

For a change to this setting to take effect, an incremental update is required.

The default value is 0.

Analysis Indexing

Run Non-Captioned Doc Type Process

If selected, documents that don't have court captions are still processed by the analyzer component and assigned to a document type (e.g., within the Internal Memos category) rather than to "Unassigned."

This setting is not selected by default.

Note: If you change this setting, documents require reindexing through the analyzer component for the change to take effect.

Cite Recognition Indexing

Underline Citations

Underline Citations and Descriptions

Determines the portions of a citation that become hypertext links during West km RID processing. These links are displayed in the HTML rendering of indexed documents and when citation links are inserted in a word-processing document using BriefTools.

  • If Underline Citations is selected, a hypertext link for only the numeric portion of the citation is created.
  • If Underline Citations and Descriptions is selected, a hypertext link for the title of the citation, as well as the numeric portion of the citation, is created.

For a change to this setting to take effect, an incremental update for cite recognition is required.

Classification Indexing

Enable CaRE

If selected, CaRE is enabled to automatically assign your organization's documents to KeySearch legal topics during indexing.

Start and Stop CaRE Service

If selected, the indexing service will start and stop the CaRE service. If not selected, the CaRE service must be started manually.

If CaRE is installed, this setting is selected by default.

Show Document Counts (End-User)

Show Document Counts (Administrative)

If Show Document Counts (End-User) is selected, counts are displayed after topics in the KeySearch hierarchy that is viewed by end users in the West km interface.

If Show Document Counts (Administrative) is selected, counts are displayed after topics in the KeySearch administrative view.

These counts indicate the number of unique documents at your organization that have been assigned to that KeySearch topic and its subtopics via manual classification or CaRE. (Counts do not include documents retrieved via Terms and Connectors queries.)

Document counts for each topic in the KeySearch hierarchy are updated daily at the end of the indexing time window. Document counts are not immediately updated when adocument is manually classified to a topic, removed from a topic, or deleted from West km.
