Managing Vetting Groups
On the Manage Vetting Groups page, you can
- define vetting groups
- manually run vetting for selected vetting groups or for a single DMS database/library (for details, see Running Vetting Rules)
- view the status of vetting processes for each vetting group and DMS database/library (for details, see Running Vetting Rules)
Each vetting group generates a collection of documents that you index in West km. One vetting group can be set as a global exclusionary group. This vetting group doesn't generate a collection of documents for indexing; rather it is a central repository of exclusionary rules that can be applied as desired to other vetting groups.
Note: For best performance, set up more vetting groups containing fewer documents rather than fewer vetting groups containing more documents.
To access the Administer Rule Groups page, click Administer Rule Groups in the left frame.

Default Vetting Groups
The following vetting groups are included by default, but are not set to run automatically:
- West km Litigation: the group's rules are designed to vet litigation documents.
- West km Transactions Docs: the group's rules are designed to vet transactional documents.
- West km Transactions Clauses: the group's rules are designed to vet transactional documents that are appropriate for clauses and defined terms analysis.
- West km LAE: the group's rules are designed to vet captioned documents that are appropriate for processing by the litigation analysis engine, such as documents that have been filed with the court (e.g., pleadings, probate documents).
- West km Global Exclusions: the group's rules are a central repository of exclusionary rules that are administered in one place and that can be applied as desired to other vetting groups.
- West km Blank Rule Group: the group contains no rules and can be used as a blank template for adding only the rules you want. You can selectively copy rules from other vetting groups or add your own rules.
Adding a Vetting Group
To add a vetting group,
- In the Data Source Type list, click your DMS.
- Click New Vetting Group. The New Vetting Group dialog box is displayed.
- In the Vetting Group Name box, type a name for the vetting group. A name is required.
- In the Description box, for your reference, type a description of the vetting group.
- To set this vetting group as the global exclusionary group, select Set As Global Exclusionary Group. This option is available only if no other vetting group is set as global exclusionary.
- To apply global exclusionary rules to the vetting group, select Include Global Exclusionary Rules.
- Click Save.
The vetting group is added to the Vetting Groups table. Note that a set of inclusionary vetting rules is automatically added to the group for you. (The new group includes all the inclusionary vetting rules from all the default groups.)
Note: If you add a vetting rule, vetting must run for the changes to take effect.
Editing, Copying, and Deleting a Vetting Group
To edit a vetting group, click the vetting group name in the Vetting Groups table. In the Edit Vetting Group dialog box, make your changes and click Save.
To copy a vetting group and its rules, click Copy next to the vetting group name. In the Copy Vetting Group dialog box, enter a new name, a description, and the options you want, and then click Save.
To delete a vetting group, select the check box to the left of the vetting group name and click Remove Selected.
Note: You must have at least one vetting group at all times.
Note: When the vetting status is InProgress or WaitingForWindow for a vetting group, you cannot edit or delete the vetting group or its rules. In addition, the global exclusionary group cannot be edited or deleted when it's applied to a vetting group in this state.
Note: If you edit, copy, or delete a vetting rule, vetting must run for the changes to take effect.
