Administering Rule Groups
Define groups of vetting rules at the Administer Rule Groups page. Rule groups generate a collection of documents that you index in West km. The following rule groups are included by default, but are not set to run automatically:
- West km Litigation: the group's rules are designed to vet litigation documents.
- West km Transactions Docs: the group's rules are designed to vet transactional documents.
- West km Transactions Clauses: the group's rules are designed to vet transactional documents that are appropriate for clauses and defined terms analysis.
- West km LAE: the group's rules are designed to vet captioned documents that are appropriate for processing by the litigation analysis engine, such as documents that have been filed with the court (e.g., pleadings, probate documents).
- West km Global Exclusions: the group's rules are a central repository of exclusionary rules that are administered in one place and that can be applied as desired to other rule groups.
- West km Blank Rule Group: the group contains no rules and can be used as a blank template for adding only the rules you want. You can selectively copy rules from other rule groups or add your own rules.
One rule group can be set as a global exclusionary rule group (either the Global Exclusionary Rules default group or another rule group). This rule group doesn't generate a collection of documents for indexing; rather it is a central repository of exclusionary rules that can be applied as desired to other rule groups.
To access the Administer Rule Groups page, click Administer Rule Groups in the left frame. (You must have administrator rights to access this page.)
Note: For best performance, set up more rule groups containing fewer documents rather than fewer rule groups containing more documents.
Adding a Rule Group
To add a rule group,
- Select your DMS from the DMS Type drop-down list.
- Type a name for the rule group in the Group Name text box. A name is required.
- For your reference, type a description of the rule group in the Description text box.
- If you want to set the rule group as the global exclusionary rule group, select Set as the Global Exclusionary Rule Group and skip to step 8. This option is available only if no other rule group is set as global exclusionary.
- To apply global exclusionary rules to the rule group, select Include Global Exclusionary Rules. (After adding the rule group, you can also set this option using the Include Global Ex Rules check box in the Saved Rule Groups table.)
- Click Add Group.
The rule group is added to the Saved Rule Groups table.
Editing and Deleting a Rule Group
To edit a rule group, click Edit next to the rule group listing in the Saved Rule Groups table. Make your changes in the Add Rule Group form at the top of the page and click Save.
To save a copy of the rule group and its rules under a different name, click Save As, type a new name, and click GO.
To delete a rule group, click Delete next to the rule group listing in the Saved Rule Groups table. At the confirmation prompt, click OK.
Note: You must have at least one rule group at all times.
Note: When the vetting status is InProgress or WaitingForWindow for a rule group, you cannot edit or delete the rule group or its rules. In addition, the global exclusionary rule group cannot be edited or deleted when it's applied to a rule group in this state. For more information about vetting status, see Viewing Vetting Job Statistics.
