Adding a Connection for eDOCS DM (API Connection)
This topic explains how to add a connection to Open Text eDOCS DM (Hummingbird) via the eDOCS DM API. An API connection is used for eDOCS DM only if you meet all of these criteria:
- you upgraded West km from a version prior to 4.7 and stayed on a 32-bit system
- in the previous version of West km, you indexed documents stored in eDOCS DM
- you want to continue connecting to eDOCS DM via its API
Note: Also refer to the West km Administrator Guide for configuration changes that are needed if you are indexing documents stored in eDOCS DM and using an API connection.
Note: To add a connection to eDOCS DM via a database connection, see Adding a Connection for eDOCS DM (Database Connection).
To add a connection for eDOCS DM via an API connection,
- Point to the Setup link, and then click Data Source Management.
- At the Data Source Management page, click Add Connection from the Tasks list.
Enter the following information.
-
If you have remote libraries set up in eDOCS DM for the main library you entered in step 4, West km can communicate with those remote libraries. To identify the remote libraries in West km, complete these steps for each remote library of the main library:
- Click the Add button next to the Remote Libraries list box.
-
In the Remote Library dialog box, type the name of the remote library and click OK.
-
If you want to select a library group for this data source, see Selecting a Library Group for details.
- Click Save.

With this option selected, you must also populate the Novell Network ID field for active members in the Professionals table. For details, see Administering West km Members. |
|
Remote Libraries |
Used to identify remote libraries so West km can communicate with them (see below for more information). |
Important: Make sure you type the name of the remote library correctly, because West km does not validate it.
If you want to edit a remote library, select the library name in the Remote Libraries list box and click Edit. To delete a remote library, select the library name and click Delete. (If you are editing the connection, you must also click Save after either of these actions. If you are adding the connection, you are instructed to save in step 10.)
Saved searches located in the main library and in identified remote libraries will be available for selection on the Indexing Options page when you add document collections. To help you identify the saved searches, they are prefaced by the library name and a colon, for example, SFdocs:Tax.
When a document collection is indexed, saved searches will run across the main library and the remote libraries you've identified for it, regardless of the library in which the saved search is located.
To return to the listing of data source connections on the Data Source Management page, click Connections List.
